Leavin' the snow BEHIND!!

So, how many butt references can I make? A scary thought...
Yep, I'm not shoveling any more snow...at least until next week when we get home from FLORIDA!

American Coot

These old Coots are flying south to visit Loxahatchee NWR and Okeeheelee Park, among other birdy places. Our first goal is to see and photograph a Painted Bunting(Butting?) and stay warm. My second goal is to be the rank amateur that sees a Ivory-billed Woodpecker that isn't stuffed in a glass case. I know, wrong area, but you never know.

Former Ivory-billed Woodpeckers

Last year we went to the San Diego Bird Festival(highly recommended!) and we were bumped from our flight and given vouchers for a future airfare. Now's our chance to use them to escape Cleveland's lovely January weather. This will be soooo much better than looking at Gulls on the lakefront and pretending to be excited about them.

So, until next week, get out and see some bird butts for me!

  1. Good luck with the Ivory-billed Woodpecker!
I'm a convert. Today, while trying to photograph a few dark-eyed juncos on my deck, I didn't get discouraged when all they wanted to do was flash me their feathery, little rears. Instead, I started laughing..."if only I were that Bird Butt Blog Guy, Dave, I'd be in business."
Finally, they turned around and smiled, and all was well.

  2. Greetings from Lyndhurst:

Looking forward to your pictures and comments on your trip. Yes, we got more snow after you left for Sunny Florida. You picked a good time to leave Cleveland!!
