No, this female Wood Duck isn't attacking me.
We spent a day at North Chagrin Reservation, a beautiful part of the Cleveland Metropark system, with The Dawdling Doodles family. When we arrived at the boardwalk, we heard quite a ruckus! I like that word, "ruckus." Anyway...what we spied was a very petite female Wood Duck going ballistic on a very large Great Blue Heron! "There is no wrath like a woman scorned" or a female Wood Duck protecting her precious ducklings from the ravenous appetite of an "eat anything" Great Blue Heron. Not to worry, the Heron left on an empty stomach...and quickly I might add!
This is one puzzled Great Blue Heron...
"She was so mean and she yelled at me soooo much!"
Still screaming...
"Now, where did I leave those kids?"
"Hey! You can come out now!"
And life goes back to normal...
Ya ever notice, there's always one kid that's afraid to get his feet wet...
"As long as I can find a lily pad I'll be fine..."
HEY! YOU'RE A DUCK!
"Kids..."
Good things to eat on the lily pads...
" Still not really happy about getting our feet wet..."
"Mommy...I got a runny beak!"
"Sheesh...that guy has some stupid jokes!" "You're tellin me!"
Pretty cool the way they get up and run across the lily pad.
ReplyDeleteQuick lil duckies!
DeleteLovely duckling, even when they have been called, bad ducklings.
ReplyDeleteChildren never listen!
DeleteWhat a glorious find. That would kill a whole afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it did! If I would have had a wide angle lens there would have been more shots. They came so close.
DeleteI loved the one "Now, where did I leave those kids?"
ReplyDeleteWatching her search through the marsh was funny. You could tell she wasn't sure where they were all hiding.
